Clinton Community College (M-T)

Davenport West High School (W/TH)

John is a licensed independent social worker (LISW) with the state of Iowa. He earned his Master of Social Work degree from Aurora University in Aurora, IL, in 2016. With nearly nine years of experience in the social work field, John has spent five of those years working as a mental health therapist. His therapeutic approach is eclectic, tailored to meet the specific needs of each client. John utilizes a variety of methods, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), client-centered approaches, experiential therapies like music and art, supportive therapy, and motivational interviewing, among others.

John has a particular interest in working with adolescents and young adults, empowering them with the tools they need to lead fulfilling lives. However, he is also experienced in providing therapy to clients of all ages. His expertise spans a wide range of mental health disorders, including PTSD, depressive and anxiety disorders, thought disorders (such as schizophrenia), and personality disorders. His previous work at a community mental health center has provided him with a diverse set of experiences and an ability to support clients through a variety of challenges.

John also believes that therapy can be beneficial for individuals without a specific mental health diagnosis. He helps clients navigate grief, adjust to significant life changes, and cope with the confusion that often accompanies personal growth. Outside of his professional life, John enjoys music, gardening, spending time outdoors, and cherishing moments with his family. He is also a dedicated pet owner, managing a small zoo consisting of two cats, a dog, a bearded dragon, and 24 fish. John looks forward to collaborating with clients and helping them become the best versions of themselves.
