February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
Teen dating violence looks different than adult abuse. Teens often date people they go to school with and share the same friend groups, which makes it harder to get distance or feel safe. They have less independence and fewer legal options, and many can’t seek protections without a parent or guardian—especially difficult if they’re afraid to speak up. Add social pressure to be in a relationship or protect their reputation, and many teens stay silent. That’s why it’s critical to give teens safe spaces, the language to talk about abuse, and a clear message: they deserve respect, and their voice matters.
