DAVENPORT, Iowa – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Family Resources’ SafePath Survivor Resources program is partnering with local schools, salons, and other community agencies to spread awareness.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, more than 17% of Iowa women are stalked during their lifetimes. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the United States have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. Abuse is 100% preventable and Family Resources wants survivors to know help is available.
The SafePath program staff will be hosting several free lunch and learn events throughout the month. The schedule of events and locations is included in the link below. Staff and volunteers will also be visiting college and high school campuses during lunch periods to paint students’ pinky nails purple for domestic violence awareness. The public is encouraged to share a photo of their own painted pinky nail to social media using #FamResPurplePinkies and tag Family Resources to be entered to win a Family Resources swag bag.
Looking for another way to help? The Quad City Rollers will be donating a portion of ticket sales from the derby on Saturday, Oct. 7, to Family Resources. Find more information on the QC Roller's Facebook page.
