Skill Development
Services are provided to: Louisa, Muscatine and Cedar Counties. In order to qualify for these services, a child must have a mental health diagnosis from a Licensed Professional of the Healing Arts (LPHA). There are three types of services. The first is Assessment. This must be completed by an LPHA. Second is Therapy. This is traditional, conventional therapy and methods; focused on identifying and modifying attitudes, perceptions, emotions, or beliefs. Third is Remedial Services or rehabilitative mental health services. These services address skills training and focus on the teaching/instruction of skills to improve behavioral functional deficits that are a direct result of the child's mental health diagnosis. The focus of rehabilitative services is not to “cure” the child but to improve the child's (and the family's) ability to manage the symptoms and to improve functioning and behavior enabling the child to function effectively within the family, school, and the community.
