internet to search for information regarding the custody status of their
offender and to register to receive telephone and email notification when
the offender's custody status changes. The toll-free number for IowaVINE
is 888-7-IAVINE or 888-742-8463.
This service is provided to assist victims of crime who have a right to

In 1977 the Muscatine Community Health Foundation put together a
task force headed by a local nurse (who continues to volunteer at our shelter)
to address and combat rape/sexual assault and domestic violence. The Muscatine
Community Health Foundation approached Family Resources Inc.'s Muscatine
office and set up an agreement, to start up services to victims of rape/sexual
assault and domestic violence in MuscatineCounty. Thus in 1977 the
Sexual Assault/Domestic Abuse Advocacy Program and Domestic Violence Shelter
(SA/DAAP) were created. SA/DAAP initially sheltered clients in a 1 .5 bedroom
apartment or referred them to other shelters outside of Muscatine. After assessing the need for a
larger shelter facility, SA/DAAP embarked on a community capital campaign in
1997. The campaign raised funds to purchase and renovate the current shelter,
which opened on November 7, 1998. During this period, services continued and
collaborations with other agencies were enhanced. SA/DAAP now has a walk-in
program for Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence survivors and a 24-hour
staffed Shelter.
