The Muscatine Learning Center is an extension of the educational programs provided by Family Resources, Inc. The Muscatine Learning Center is located in Muscatine, Iowa and is a collaborative partnership between the Muscatine Community School District and Family Resources, Inc. This unique partnership combines the mission of the Muscatine Community School District "...to ensure excellence in education for every student" and the Muscatine Learning Center Mission Statement: "
The Muscatine Learning Center (MLC) views each student as an individual. We measure our students' successes by the progress each student makes toward the realization of their potential as a worthy and effective citizen. Our faculty work to stimulate our students' spirit of inquiry, to help our students gain knowledge and understanding, and to aid our students' in the thoughtful formulation of worthy goals. The Learning Center exists to improve each student's ability to apply appropriate social skills; to increase communication skills; to ensure academic work is relevant to present and future life; and to recognize the need to engage in life-long learning."
The Muscatine Learning Center maintains small class sizes (student enrollment does not exceed 10 students) to allow greater attention to individual student needs. The Muscatine Learning Center provides a safe school environment. The curriculum is based on the requirements of the Muscatine Community School District and activities are designed to support personal and social development needs. Some students are placed at the Muscatine Learning Center as an academic "catch up." Career and vocational opportunities are explored to help develop and support students to prepare for and participate successfully in the world of work.
All admissions to the Muscatine Learning Center are referred and coordinated by the Special Education Director of Muscatine Community Schools, Jan Collinson.
