Project BEST

A no-cost consulting service to licensed childcare centers or registered day care home providers within Scott County for residents of Scott County.

ProjectBEST Funded for 3rd Year by Scott County KIDS

Project BEST addresses specific problematic behaviors in individual children while also establishing environments that foster positive social/emotional growth for childcare settings and at home.

  • Project BEST is able to assess needs of children ages 0-6 years of age.

    • So you have a Picky Eater:

      • Remember a young child's stomach can only hold a few tablespoons at a time.

      • On average a young child will need to have a new food introduced 10 times before he/she will eat it.

      • Have your child participate in the preparation of the meal.

      • Find out the reason your child is picky-are YOU a picky eater?
      • "Hide" veggies/fruits in combo recipes like: casseroles, shakes, spreads, soups and dips.

      • Model and practice good table manners and nutrition.

      • Have theme days to introduce foods from other countries.
      • No child has died from skipping one meal...just don't cave in and allow snacking between meals.

      • If a child will not sit at meal time, have him/her do 10 jumping jacks or run laps around the house, dance to music....anything physical BEFORE having him/her clean up and sit at the table.

Project BEST is funded by Scott County KIDS.
