Project BEST

A no-cost consulting service to licensed childcare centers or registered day care home providers within Scott County for residents of Scott County.

Project BEST addresses specific problematic behaviors in individual children while also establishing environments that foster positive social/emotional growth for childhood settings and at home.

  • Project BEST is able to assess needs of children ages 0-6 years of age.

    • Infant/Toddler red flags in social/emotional devlopment:

      • Is difficult to comfort by physical contact such as rocking or holding.
      • Does not reach out to significant caregiver for comfort.
      • Easily allows a stranger to hold him/her.
      • Parent & child do not engage in smiling and vocalization with each other.
      • Parent ignores, punishes or misreads child's signals of distress.
      • Parent & child do not engage in playful, intimate interactions with each other.
      • Child shows little wariness towards anew room or stranger.
      • Parent has inappropriate expectations of the child for age.
      • Baby resists holding.
      • Infant/Toddler is difficult to comfort/console; has prolonged inconsolable crying.
      • Has sleeping or eating difficulties (sleeps or eats too much or too little)
      • Infant/Toddler is failing to thrive.
      • Rarely seeks or makes eye contact, or typically avoids eye contact with parents.
      • Rarely coos, babbles, or vocalizes

Project BEST is funded by Scott County KIDS.
