Pregnancy Counseling Services

Being pregnant can be a wonderful experience. Sometimes though, it is an unplanned event that can be overwhelming and scary. A pregnancy is a life-changing event that all people are not prepared for.

You have options . . . The Pregnancy Counseling Program of Family Resources provides free and confidential services designed to help you make the decision that is right for you. Counselors are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week to inform you of all of your options in a non-directive way.

If you choose to parent . . .
  • A counselor can visit with you in your own home or in the office to provide support and information.

  • Referrals can be made to community resources (medical care, housing, childbirth classes, other supports and services.)

  • Information on pregnancy, fetal development, labor and delivery.

  • Information and explanation of legal resources, rights and responsibilities.

If you choose adoption . . .
  • A counselor can meet with you regularly to provide support, guidance, and information throughout the process.

  • You can select the adoptive family and meet with the family if desired. You select the level of involvement they have in your pregnancy.

  • You can receive regular updates and/or pictures of your child throughout their lifetime.

  • You will not be responsible for any legal costs associated with the adoption. We will guide you through the legal process.

  • Family Resources, Inc. will make the necessary contacts with the birth father if he is not supportive of your plan.

  • After the birth of your child, Family Resources, Inc. is available to continue counseling and support as long as needed.

Can anyone become an adoptive parent?

Only after completing a detailed background check and mandatory training.

Do birth parents have any rights in making a plan of adoption?

Yes, the adoption plan is personalized to fit your needs, there are many options and the choice is all yours.

Is my identify confidential?

Yes, if that is what you choose.

What if I don’t know who the birth father is, does he have to agree to the plan of adoption?

Certain attempts must be made to identify the birth father. If he is identified and he does not agree with your adoption plan, you still have options.

Do I have to pay for all medical expenses?

Not necessarily. Often times Title IXX covers expenses incurred during pregnancy and delivery, your case manager will assist with this process.

Can I change my mind once I choose to adopt?

Yes, the timeframe varies in Iowa and Illinois. Your case manager can explain the rules for your state. Our staff will always support you, no matter what your decision.

What type of support can I expect after the adoption?

Counseling and referral services are always available at no cost. We are just a phone call away!
