Recently Illinois lawmakers cut funding by 75% to programs that serve victims of sexual and domestic violence. Family Resources serves clients in both Illinois and Iowa therefore a large percentage of our funding for these services comes from Illinois. The recent cuts have resulted in a 30% reduction in Family Resources’ Victim Services budget forcing the agency to lay off 30% of its staff or 9 full time employees.

Tuesday, Jun 23 ILLINOIS BUDGET CUTS WILL BE DEVASTATING TO VICTIMS OF SEXUAL AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Extreme budget decreases threaten the very existence of programs that assist victims of sexual and domestic violence in Illinois. Deep cuts of 70 to 75% for rape/sexual assault and domestic violence programs will leave victims and their children with little to no access to critical services. Some programs may eliminate 24/7 hotline coverage; some will eliminate emergency shelter; most will eliminate all community services and prevention/education services; and several will close their doors altogether. The remaining centers will have to cut their services so drastically that they will only be able to serve a small fraction of victims in need of help.
